Available as private cruise excursion from the port of Palermo
In the middelages Palermo was one of the richest cities in Europe and capital of one of the most developed countries: the Kingdom of Sicily founded by the Normans. On this excursion you will see beautiful sites built in that period and not only. In the morning we will visit Monreale, a little town just 8 km away from Palermo. You will be amazed by how much history and culture you will find in this little town. The Cathedral of Santa Maria Nuova is an art jewel with gold mosaics and is called "the eighth wonder of the world". Legend holds that in 1771 King William II dreamed a Madonna that suggested him the place where a great treasure was hidden and said him to make a church to thank her. Therefore, King William ordered the construction of the Duomo.
After lunch in Monreale we will go back to Palermo for a visit of the Cathedral, stunning example of Arab-Norman architecture style. Later we will explore the Normans Palace , and the Capo Market , where we will taste typical sicilian products.
Our tour will end with a relaxing walk by the Teatro Massimo (featured in the movied Godfather), Teatro Politeama, the Four Corners Square, the Royal Palace and Piazza Pretoria. You will love this trip through art, history and taste!
